Style Guide · Boho

A boho wedding venue in the Palatinate.

Ivy walls, a walled garden with old stone, 14,000 m² of park, outdoor ceremonies under open sky. Villa Renting was built in 1880 — the kind of setting where the boho aesthetic does not need to be constructed. It is already there.

The aesthetic

What boho actually means for a wedding.

Boho — short for bohemian — describes a wedding aesthetic built around natural materials, organic textures, and a looseness of structure. Pampas grass in tall vases. Linen tablecloths. Dried flowers instead of fresh. Long trestle tables instead of rounds. Candlelight over chandeliers.

The aesthetic works best when the setting already carries that feeling. A venue with modern glass walls and polished concrete requires significant decoration to feel boho. A venue with old stone, garden walls, and mature trees has that quality in its bones — the decoration enhances it rather than fighting against it.

That is the distinction that matters when choosing a boho wedding venue: not which venue can be dressed to look the part, but which venue already is the part.

The setting

What makes Villa Renting work for this style.

The villa was built in 1880. The walls of the garden are original stone. Ivy has been growing on the south-facing facade for decades. The park trees are established — the kind that create shade and depth in photos rather than the sparseness of a venue built five years ago.

  • Walled garden for outdoor ceremonies — enclosed, textured walls, ceremony arch space between the stone and the tree line.
  • Covered outdoor area for dinner — a permanent roof, open on three sides, with three chandeliers that work as focal points without any additional decoration.
  • Natural materials throughout — the interior uses wood and plaster rather than glass and steel. The dining room has a wooden floor that has seen four generations.
  • Park for photos — 14,000 m² with varied light. Morning light through the tree canopy, afternoon sun across the lawn, evening light along the garden wall.
  • No mandatory caterer or florist — you work with who you choose. Boho-style florists who know natural and dried materials can work the space however they want.

The details

How couples style it.

The ceremony in the walled garden sets the tone. A pampas arch at the centre, seating on both sides in two rows, the ceremony conducted by a celebrant rather than a registrar. The garden walls and the sky are the backdrop — no additional dressing needed there.

Cocktail hour in the park works naturally in summer and early autumn. Tables outside, dried flower arrangements, the evening light coming through the trees at a low angle. Linen, wood, terracotta tones.

Dinner either inside (long tables running the length of the dining room, candlelight, mixed heights in the table arrangements) or under the covered outdoor area (more air, the garden still present, the chandeliers overhead). Both work. Most boho couples choose outside when the weather allows.

Music until 4 a.m. The late night is part of the feeling — no lights up at midnight, no administrative end to the evening. The party slows down when people are ready, not when the venue is.

We didn't bring a single fake flower. The garden walls and the trees were the decoration. We just added candles.
